Captain Jerry Kernan
Captain Jerry, a southwest Florida native, grew up in the Upper Keys and now calls Naples home. He fishes primarily out of Port of the Islands, a resort hotel and marina in the 10,000 Islands, but also launches his boats out of Naples, Goodland, and Chokoloskee. His professional and personal skills make him the ideal fishing guide. Whether you’re a beginning fisherman or a seasoned angler, Captain Jerry will tailor your fishing experience to your expectations and abilities, and insure you have a great time no matter what you’re catching. He enjoys the 10,000 Islands and the Everglades almost as much as he enjoys fishing, and he will readily share with you his sense of wonder and respect for this very special place. He is a reliable and professional guide, who is also good-natured, fun-loving and personable, the perfect guide for your fishing adventure in southwest Florida. Captain Jerry holds a 100-ton Master’s License from the US Coast Guard. He is an International Game Fish Association certified guide, and a member of the Florida Guides’ Association.

The Boats
Captain Jerry’s primary boat is a 2007 Hewes Redfisher, a flats skiff powered by a Yamaha 115 4-stroke. This boat will comfortably carry two anglers plus the captain.
Captain Jerry also has a 2000 17-foot Pathfinder tunnel hull technical poling skiff, powered by a Yamaha 60 4-stroke. This boat knows no boundaries when it comes to skinny water, and is limited only by the diameter of the propeller in navigating the flats and shallows of the 10,000 Islands!
FAQs:
What should I bring?
Polarized sunglasses are a must, as are sunscreen and a hat. Don’t underestimate the power of the Florida sun, which is only increased by reflection off the water and the deck of the boat. You’ll also want to pack a lunch, some bug spray, and a rain slicker, particularly in the summer months. Please wear light-soled shoes, and be sure to bring your camera!
What will Captain Jerry provide?
Captain Jerry will provide all fishing gear and tackle, including top end Quantum spinning reels and St. Croix rods. If you prefer to fly fish, you’ll use Tibor fly reels mounted on Orvis and Sage fly rods. Again, all gear is top of the line. Captain Jerry will also provide all bait (live and artificial), all licenses and Everglades Park permits, and insurance. A cooler, ice, and drinking water will all be supplied for you.
What will we catch?
Captain Jerry targets redfish, snook, and tarpon, but that doesn’t mean we might also encounter snapper, trout, pompano, grouper, or black drum.
What is the weather like?
As you may know, the winter months in Florida provide the most pleasant weather for humans, but the best fishing sometimes happens during the muggy, rainy, buggy months of summer. Check here for current weather conditions.
What will we do with our catch?
Captain Jerry practices catch and release, but if you want to take your fish home, he’ll clean and bag your catch for you back at the dock.
